We recently came across a typical quality‑risk case in international procurement. An overseas client intended to purchase rubber-lined valves from a Chinese trader and entrusted our company to carry out a factory audit prior to order placement.

Nevertheless, to cut costs, the trader subcontracted the order to another trading entity without valve-manufacturing qualifications. Ultimately, the valves were manufactured in a small, unqualified workshop.

These products carry fatal quality defects: an absence of original pressure-test records at site, uncalibrated pressure gauges, and a total lack of product traceability. Workshop management is grossly non-compliant, improper welding-material storage, unqualified NDT (non-destructive testing) operators, and inadequate rust-removal and no thread protection during painting process for products.

Non-conforming goods of this kind may trigger overseas equipment malfunctions, project shutdowns, and compensation claims, inflicting substantial financial losses and reputational damage on international buyers.

We would like to remind all overseas clients that on-site factory audits are indispensable when purchasing industrial products from a trader that one is also unfamiliar with. Most general traders lack professional quality-control capabilities for their non-core products. They are unable to rigorously supervise production workflows, standards and inspection activities, which frequently gives rise to unauthorized subcontracting, corner-cutting and non-compliant workmanship.
